This impressive large antique long 'kelleigh' proportion carpet was made in the then independent Emirate of Bukhara, not in the city itself but from an outlying workshop in the Amu Dyra river region, just prior to Muscovite colonisation. The design is informed by motifs that are familiar in the carpets of Western Iran as is much of the internal ornamentation in that city. The damaged flatweave ends of the carpet have been tucked back under along with other other restoration work in Istanbul, which has shortened the carpet slightly.
The carpet would serve very well in a large dining hall or even under a board room table. Please note the carpet has been photographed in both pile direction orientations.
