Although it appears as a kilim the vertical slits are bound in b crossing over the upright parts of the weave which creates a far more resilient product something hardly surprising given its intended utilitarian purpose. The piece is actually the surviving part of what had been a strong bag used to contain household items or possibly one of twins that formed a pannier. Ideal as a cushion or pillow.
