The range of colours and particularly the chocolate red, is characteristic of the minor Turkmen group the Saryk, however, the design is that of the larger dominant Tekke, whose ubiquitous gul design is shown here. Under occupation the groups fused, although given the Saryk were the minority, they were employed by the Soviets as an independent police force.
The rug is showing wear in places and there is a patch sewn to one corner to stabilise a ragged hole, something taken into consideration when pricing - sold as found
