Bahawalpur or Hyderabad warp faced silk waist cloth (252 x 29cm)

£ 240.00

252 x 29 cm  //  8ft 3" x 11"

Bahawalpur was formally an independent princely state straddling important trading routes east of the Indus river and close to the Thar Desert in Punjab. Its status may account for the high-end, warp-face luxury weavings such as this, which can be viewed the same both sides. Similar weavings were made in Hyderabad, Nasarpur and Wicholo in upper Sindh.

Originally the cloth may have consisted of two identical pieces or this may have been intended to be worn singly with more of the patterned part showing - the piece appears to be unused.
