Light coffee-coloured satin, beautifully embroidered in coloured floss silks with all over flowers and foliage around a central floral medallion, with velvet, satin and other fabric appliquéd to the flowers and leaves, outlined in gold and silver-coloured metal threads and purl work. Whilst the pale orange silk lining is in need of attention the embroidery itself is remarkably well preserved and in fact appears unused.
Protected in a box from Mary Lee (department store) 48-60 Mount Pleasant, Tunbridge Wells, Kent as evidenced by a George VI stamp shilling dated 1937, the same year the department store changed hands and brand.
Likely a Rajasthan workshop, possibly Ajmir where sequined work was done on satin silk, made for export or sale to expat British serving officers - commonly such work depicts peacocks.
