This saddle cover is not a Chinese made piece for export to Tibet but finely done in the original Tibetan manner of pile structure by slicing the loops of the knots from a pole. The saddle cover has its original felted wool surround and the cotton backing appears original being discoloured. The red felted wool is likely an English import sometimes known as 'Broadcloth' in former times and typically produced in Stroud Gloucestershire and West Yorkshire given there was little use for such material in the heat of India.
