290 x 127 cm (305 x 142 cm) // 10ft x 4ft 6" to include the mount
Sometime described as either Afshan or Blossam carpets this piece dates to an independent Khanate period dating prior to Moscvovite control in third quarter of 19th cent. The proportions amongst and weaving quality and other things. signify it is not of a more modern era. Typically associated with the Azerbaijani regional weaving centre of Kuba perhaps the city of Shamaki / Shamikhi with which the type of rug Shirvan is associated might be a better candidate for its origin
This very fine Shirvan type rug has been professionally mounted on linen cloth. Conceivably it may be used for light duties but perhaps best used now as a wall hanging.
