This long rug features unusual cochineal dye in common with many Armenian rugs. It is mostly in good pile condition with wonderful lustrous wool yarn but for some areas of moth damage. The as yet unread, presumably commemorative inscription may contain an AH date 1280 (1863 AD).
The rug has been shortened at some stage (not less than 75 cm) and some of the pieces that originally formed the side are now arranged across one end - given the different pile direction. Further work is required in one corner.
