Chinese workshop export floss silk embroidery ( 206 x 149 cm)

206 x 149 cm = 6ft 10" x 4ft 11"

Made as a hanging and embroidered either in mainland China ( e.g.  Canton / Guangzhou ) or some Chinese controlled East Asian workshop such as Manila for European export. The un-spun floss silk is laid and couched with tagged gilt outlines onto a satin silk giving an altogether shimmering effect.

The silk ground is fragile and broken in places and has been previously repaired but still requires some further conservation which can be added.

The old European gilt brocade band which binds the edges was probaly not applied originally but serves to strengthen the structure.
