Despite the rather banal sounding title, this brave little hardbound book offers a review of first millennium textiles but given the 1960s date and in translation from the original German, the author works hard to come to grips with some of the early Central Asian silks but is on stronger ground with late classical works. Very much after the manner of the much larger 1922 Decorative Silks by his fellow country man Oto van Falke whose significant work was republished several times.
